Mitchella Gilbert created Oya Femtech in 2021 at the Venture Accelerator at UCLA. The focus of the still-emerging business is on producing top-notch athletic apparel that puts women's health first. Leggings can be quite hazardous for your vagina, something most people are unaware of. Exactly what was that? Gilbert began there after making a ground-breaking athletic discovery. Funny enough, yeast infections occur frequently, according to Gilbert. "In college, I worked out when I was anxious; you can follow me on Instagram." I've started to exercise more recently. I exercise frequently, but because life is hectic, I have another yeast infection and am at UCLA's OBGYN. She also tells me not to wear leggings anymore. Considering that I had been wearing these jeans nonstop. Gilbert then made a ground-breaking discovery.

“Funnily enough, people get yeast infections all the time,” states Gilbert. “In college, I trained when I’d get stressed; you can follow my Instagram I’ve been starting to work out more. So, I’m working out a lot, and I’m at UCLA at the OBGYN with another yeast infection because life is stressful. And she tells me to stop wearing leggings. And I was like, ‘What!?’ because I’ve been living in these pants for, like, a decade at this point.” That’s what sparked Gibert’s interest in athletic apparel with purpose. Gilbert knows just how much difficulty Black women and people go through in the healthcare system, and we all know it’s not fair. She’s just doing her part to try to bridge the gap just a little bit. Oya supports several health projects that benefit women's health, and its most recent campaign, "Mind Your Own Uterus," gave women and people with vagina the capacity to take charge of their physical, mental, and vaginal well-being. We put our money where our mouth is when it comes to initiatives that promote female athletes, help women find their voices, and take care of their periods, she stated. "I would say that beyond just our nonprofit partnerships and beyond the apparel brand, I honestly think it's about adding to the discourse." Even women don't know much about their own bodies, so the company offers "vagina IQ quizzes" to help them learn more about where everything is and what it does (Essence.com).
